Research :
For the last two decades, the main area of research has been associated with pharmacological control of gastric acid secretion. Almost every new drug available for the control of gastric acid secretion has been subjected to evaluation. The Centre was also involved with innovative early research relating to Helicobacter pylori.
More recently, there has been an extensive programme of research which initially involved the identification of Crohn's disease as a granulomatous vasculitis, and other epidemiological studies are currently under study .
Other research involves investigation of inflammatory and functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including disorders of motility associated with non-ulcer dyspepsia and biofeedback management of colonic symptoms associated with an irritable bowel, and the national audit of colonoscopy.
Finally, recent research work in the hospital includes all areas of gastroenterology and hepatology including gastrointestinal malignancy, reflux disease,IBD,celiac disease, chronic liver diseases (viral and immune) H.pylori in humans and animals.
